Recent activities

Currently I am working on a philosophy book 'Otherhumanism: the flourishing of life, self and other'. I was inspired to engage upon this project by earlier work on trust: what are the deeper foundations of trust and altruism? I make use, among others things, of the 'philosophy of the other' of Emmanuel Levinas.

In June 2010 I was awarded the Schumpeter prize for my book 'A cognitive theory of the firm; Learning, governance and dynamic capabilities', published by Edward Elgar in 2009, paperback edition in March 2010.

In 2006 - 2007 I was a member of the 'Scientific Council for Government Policy' (WRR), where I led a team for the development of a policy report for the Dutch Government on innovation policy that was presented in may 2008.

The result is twofold:

  1. First, a policy report, in Dutch, published by Amsterdam University Press (AUP), with the title Innovatie vernieuwd: Opening in viervoud, click to download.
  2. Second, an underlying exploratory study in the form of a volume of papers, edited together with Erik Stam, in English, with the title ‘Micro foundations for innovation policy’, also to be published by AUP in 2008. For the list of contents of this volume, dowload: Micro-foundations for innovation policy.pdf.

Chapters for which I was an author can be downloaded.

Earlier, in 2006, I published an edited book on knowledge and learning (Edward Elgar). It has two volumes. Vol I contains fundamental classics on knowledge and learning. For the List of contents Knowledge and Learning.pdf, click to download. For the introduction, click here. Vol. II contains modern classics concerning knowledge and learning in organizations. List of contents, introduction vol. II.

In 2004 I published a book ‘Interfirm collaboration, learning and networks: An integrated approach’. download the content.
